Lowestoft, formerly known as Lowestoft Central, is a staffed railway station serving the town of Lowestoft in Suffolk. It is the terminus of the Wherry Line from and the East Suffolk Line from . It is the easternmost station on the National Rail network. The station is owned by Network Rail and served by Abellio Greater Anglia. Services are operated by diesel multiple units of Classes 153, 156 or 170. According to Office of Rail Regulation usage figures for 2010-2011, Lowestoft was, after Ipswich, and , the fourth-busiest station in Suffolk, with busy commuter traffic to and to a lesser extent to Ipswich. Until the late 1960s the station was served more frequently, with regular direct express trains for holidaymakers in the summer from London and elsewhere and direct local services to Great Yarmouth. ==Facilities and services== Lowestoft station is conveniently situated between the south end of the shopping area in the town centre and the north end of the sea front. The services tend to be regularly timed, usually departing at 50 minutes past the hour during the day.〔 The final service usually departs at 2330.〔 Norwich trains usually depart from platform 3. Saturday services follow a similar pattern with a reduced service on Sundays.〔 The journey time averages 40 minutes.〔 The service to via the East Suffolk Line runs hourly following the opening of a passing loop at in December 2012. This usually leaves at 8 minutes past the hour. These trains usually depart from platform 2 nearest the ticket office.
